The Challenge
Procare is a leading UK manufacturer of professional salon tools, and with colouring techniques becoming increasingly sophisticated, the company recognised a need to modernise one of the most relied upon elements of the colourist’s workflow: foil preparation. Traditional manual methods can be time‑consuming, inconsistent and prone to waste, creating inefficiencies during busy colour services.
GX was approached to support the development of a new automated dispensing system, one that would combine digital intelligence with Procare’s pioneering Airflow Technology to deliver faster, more consistent foil preparation. The brief called for a compact, contemporary design capable of cutting and folding foils automatically, while also offering colourists greater control through preset and customisable foil lengths.
The challenge lay in creating a system that could seamlessly integrate advanced technology, intuitive controls and reliable mechanical performance, all within a form suited to the demands of modern professional salons.
The Solution
GX worked closely with Procare to refine the unit’s aesthetic and engineer the internal systems needed for smooth, dependable dispensing. A key focus was the integration of Procare’s Airflow Technology, designed to separate foils cleanly as they dispense and reduce sticking during application.
To support cleaner colour placement, the system incorporates a subtle prefold that helps minimise colour bleed around the scalp and hairline. The unit is also designed to work with Procare’s dual‑texture embossed foil, which offers improved grip and handling for more precise sectioning.
The device provides four preset foil lengths, with full customisation available through a dedicated app. This interface allows colourists to personalise settings, create bespoke foil lengths and access guidance and tutorials.
Throughout development, GX focused on ensuring consistent performance, reduced waste and a more streamlined workflow. The system is calibrated specifically for Procare’s foil format, ensuring long‑term reliability and a seamless supply chain for busy salons.
The Result
