Speedwrap Pro: User-First Design in Action
22 April 2026Commercial kitchens are constantly evolving. Yet, traditional foil and film dispensers hadn’t changed much in decades.
Sharp blades sat exposed, rolls slipped, bacteria accumulated, and waste was widespread. In professional kitchens, every second counts, so a tool having such a negative impact on operations – and causing unnecessary injuries – should be unthinkable.
The industry was crying out for a solution. We worked with our client Prowrap to redesign the dispenser from the ground up.
Prioritising efficiency, safety and sustainability
We approached the project by first understanding where traditional foil and film dispensers fall short: exposed sharp blades, awkward roll changes, unhygienic surfaces and unnecessary plastic waste.
Next, we factored in the need for a build robust enough to perform in busy, high-pressure environments, where frequent, repetitive use was non-negotiable.
From there, we agreed every design decision, right down to the smallest detail, must improve efficiency, minimise waste, and increase user confidence.
Speedwrap Pro: Safer by design
One of the main areas of focus – and most significant improvements – was the blade safety system. Speedwrap Pro’s patented blade is now fully concealed and only exposed when the lid is pressed down to make a cut, significantly reducing the risk of accidents. For teams tracking lost-time injuries, that’s a major win.
Cleanliness and hygiene were also key considerations. Older dispensers typically feature ridges and grooves that trap bacteria and make cleaning difficult. Speedwrap Pro’s smooth surface, combined with its antimicrobial protection, addresses both issues. Plus, it wipes clean in seconds, making end-of-shift cleaning that bit faster.
The anti-rollback mechanism is another small improvement with a major impact. When loading a new roll, it stays exactly where you put it. No fumbling, no dropped rolls, and no wasted film. It’s a smooth, straightforward operation that works first time, every time – ensuring teams maintain vital momentum in fast-paced kitchens.
Rethinking the refill
Not satisfied with enhancing the dispenser, the refill rolls were re-imagined too. For years, the industry standard has been to use little plastic adapters in every roll, which help the roll sit securely in the dispenser. They’re awkward, add unnecessary plastic and – across thousands of kitchens changing rolls daily – create a significant volume of waste.
The solution (suggested by Procare UK's CEO, Jon Crowley) was to replace the adapters completely. Speedwrap Pro’s refill rolls now feature a notched cardboard core. They’re plastic-free, fully recyclable, and maintain performance.
It’s a small change, but it’s making a meaningful difference to the industry’s environmental impact. So much so, that Speedwrap Pro has been shortlisted for the Footprint 'Sustainable Catering Equipment Manufacturing' Award - an industry leading accolade.
A cut above in commercial kitchens
Since launch, Speedwrap Pro has received strong praise, with chefs immediately recognising the difference it makes in their day-to-day work. A celebrated London-based chef even called it the ‘Ferrari of dispensers’, highlighting its high-quality build and unparalleled safety and efficiency.
Designing for meaningful change
Speedwrap Pro reflects a broader belief: when products are designed around real users and real behaviours, they deliver value far beyond function alone. It isn’t a single revolutionary feature. Instead, it applies thoughtful design to an everyday product, making every chef’s job easier, safer and cleaner.
This is the real power of design: when done well, it quietly improves performance, safety and sustainability, delivering measurable value through attention to the details that shape everyday work.
